چکیده

Assays of seven mutant stocks exposed a ten-fold range in spontaneous Minute mutation frequencies. Genetic analysis of the difference between the px (0.0006 Minutes) and bri (0.0042 Minutes) stocks revealed that each of these stocks lacks one of two complementary, autosomally transmitted, maternally expressed, dominant suppressors of a dominant 3-linked mutator present in the bri stock. Analysis of the ca; stw stock (0.0013 Minutes) with respect to the former two indicated the presence of the autosomal suppressor functions in addition to a maternally expressed, extrachromosomally transmitted, suppressor of a paternal chromosome-breaking mutator, which is also extra-chromosomally transmitted. The lesions induced by the two mutators in male carriers are probably different, but both kinds are subject to modification by the maternal suppressors soon after fertilization. The existence of these diverse controls of mutability is viewed as confirmation of Sturtevant's (1937) argument that natural selection invokes a variety of devices to minimize mutation rates while retaining mutational potential.

Male recombination in Brazilian populations of Drosophila ananassae.

With few exceptions, spontaneous crossing over does not normally occur in male Drosophila. Drosophila ananassae males show considerable amounts of crossing over. In wild males of D. ananassae from Asian (2008) and Brazilian populations (1986 and 2007) variable frequencies of meiotic crossing over, estimated from chiasmata counts, suggested the existence of factors controlling male crossing over...

Formal relations between Om mutants and their suppressors in Drosophila ananassae.

Optic morphology (Om) mutants associated with insertions of the tom transposable element at each of three tested loci are neomorphs as defined by the phenotypic equivalence of +/+/Om with +/Om and of +/Om/Om with Om/Om. Mutants behaving as suppressors of Om mutants and mapping to at least six loci are recovered from the same source and in similar frequency as Om mutants. The semidominant and no...

Population Genomics of Infectious and Integrated Wolbachia pipientis Genomes in Drosophila ananassae

Coevolution between Drosophila and its endosymbiont Wolbachia pipientis has many intriguing aspects. For example, Drosophila ananassae hosts two forms of W. pipientis genomes: One being the infectious bacterial genome and the other integrated into the host nuclear genome. Here, we characterize the infectious and integrated genomes of W. pipientis infecting D. ananassae (wAna), by genome sequenc...

Singh B.N., and S. Sisodia (2013): The Drosophila ananassae species complex: evolutionary relationships among different members Genetika, Vol 45, No. 1, 273-288. Information about genetic structure and historical demography of natural populations is central to understanding how natural selection changes genomes. Drosophila ananassae is a widespread species occurring in geographically isolated o...

Population Genetics of Drosophila: Genetic Variation and Differentiation among Indian Natural Populations of Drosophila ananassae

Sanjay Kumar and Arvind Kumar Singh (2017) Genetic subdivision in natural populations of animals including Drosophila can be well understood by studying the role of evolutionary forces like natural selection, migration and genetic drift which are mainly responsible for the change in their genome. Drosophila ananassae is a cosmopolitan and domestic species and is one of the prevalently occurring...
